Abdul Hameed Khorasani briefly served as District Governor of Ahmad Aba District in eastern Paktia province starting in March 2023 but was later removed due to his frequent media appearances and violations of the Taliban's public relations policies. Previously, he served as provincial security chief of Panjshir province from October 2021 to March 2022. Hameed Khorasani, who maintains close links to the Haqqani Network, was reportedly ousted from his prior role in Panjshir after publicly condemning the then-governor for mistreating residents of the province. During the previous Afghan government, he associated with Tajik warlord Atta Mohammad Noor and underwent multiple captures by Afghan forces but consistently secured release. Later, he aligned himself with the Taliban, and currently, one of his four brothers serves with him within the Taliban ranks.
