Haji Mohammad Yousuf Wafa assumed the role of Governor of Balkh province in May 2023. Prior to this, he served as the Governor of Kandahar province from September 2021 to May 2023. During his tenure in Kandahar, he briefly held an additional position as the acting governor of Balkh province from March 10 to May 4, 2023, following the assassination of his predecessor, Mawlawi Mohammad Daud Muzzamil, in a suicide attack claimed by the ISIS-Khorasan group. Notably, Haji Mohammad Yousuf Wafa is recognized as a key figure within the inner circle of the Taliban's emir.
