Mawlawi Attaullah Omari, a senior ethnic Uzbek member of the Quetta Shura Taliban, currently serves as the Minister of Agriculture. He is also a member of a commission appointed by the Taliban's emir dedicated to preventing land grabbing.
His background within the Taliban's hierarchy reflects a history of senior military and administrative positions. Before his current ministerial role, he held the position of Deputy Minister for Technology and Logistics at the Ministry of National Defense from March to August 2022. His preceding post was as Corp Commander of the 209 Al-Fatah Military Corps in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province, from September 2021 to March 2022.
His extensive history includes serving as the Taliban's shadow governor for Faryab province from 2005 to 2007 and subsequently leading the Taliban's commission for civilian casualties. Later, until 2020, he held the positions of the Taliban's shadow governor for Saripul, Jawzjan, Samangan, and Badghis provinces. Born in 1961, Mawlawi Attaullah Omari received his early education at Darul Uloom Baba Wali in his hometown and later graduated from Qarghan High School. His close association with Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, Mullah Abdul Salam Hanafi, indicates his status as a trusted ally within the Taliban's leadership.
