Mawlawi Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai presently serves as the senior advisor and head of monitoring within the Office of the Taliban's emir. Additionally, he leads the Ahmadzai Tribal Council. During the Afghan resistance against Soviet forces, he was closely associated with the Harakat-i-Inqilab-i-Islami party led by the late jihadi leader, Mawlawi Mohammad Nabi Mohammadi. In the 1990s, during the first Taliban regime, he reportedly held the position of Third Secretary at the Taliban Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. After 2001, he was reportedly in charge of the Taliban's commission for properties. During the U.S.-Taliban negotiations in Doha, Qatar, Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai was among the first group of Taliban representatives appointed to the Taliban Political Office. He is reported to be a trusted confidante of the Taliban's emir. Born in 1971, he is listed on the UN's sanctions list under the designation TAi.127.
