Mawlawi Najibullah Haqqani assumed his current position as Minister of Communications and Information Technology in September 2021. During the 1990s, he served as the deputy minister of finance and reportedly as deputy minister for interior affairs under the Taliban regime. Post-2001, he reportedly managed the Taliban’s military activities in eastern Kunar province (as of 2008) and later as shadow governor overseeing affairs in Laghman province (as of 2010). Reports also indicate he briefly led the Taliban’s commission for mining. Mawlawi Najibullah Haqqani's familial ties are noteworthy; he is the cousin of Mawlawi Noor Jalal, presently serving as deputy minister of interior within the Taliban's government. He is sanctioned by the UN Security Council under the designation TAi.071.
