Mawlawi Sayyed Ghiyasuddin Agha, a former member of the Taliban's leadership and military councils, currently serves as a key advisor to the Taliban's emir, Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada. In the 1990s, he held key positions as the Minister of Education and Minister of Hajj (Pilgrimage) and Religious Affairs under the Taliban regime. Before that, he oversaw the Taliban's activities in the provinces of Faryab, Jawzjan, Balkh, and Saripul in northern Afghanistan. Born in 1961, Mawlawi Sayyed Ghiyasuddin Agha was reportedly involved in narcotics trafficking and is listed on the UN Sanctions List under the designation TAi.072.
