Mawlawi Wali Jan Hamza assumed the role of Chief of Police in Kabul province in November 2021. Before this appointment, he briefly served as the Deputy Commander of the 205 Al-Badr Military Corps in Kandahar province from September to November 2021. In the 1990s, he held the position of the Taliban's provincial governor of northern Jawzjan province. After 2001, he became a member of the Peshawar Shura Taliban in Pakistan and served as the group's shadow governor for Wardak province during the insurgency. Later, he led the Taliban's commission for prisoners and refugees out of Pakistan. Born in 1968 in Quetta, Pakistan, he is listed on the United Nation's sanctions list under the designation TAi.095.
