Mawlawi Abdul Manan Omari, a senior figure within the Taliban organization, assumed the role of Minister of Labor and Social Affairs on January 16, 2023. Notably, he is the brother of the Taliban's founding leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar, and the uncle of the current Defense Minister, Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid. Before his current appointment, Abdul Manan Omari held the position of Minister of Public Works from September 2021 to January 2023. During the 1990s, he served as the Minister of Energy and Water under the Taliban regime, showcasing his longstanding involvement in key cabinet roles. Post-2001, he served as the head of the Taliban’s Guidance Commission, a position he held as of 2016. Later, he played a significant role as a member of the Taliban’s negotiating team in Doha, Qatar, demonstrating his versatility within the Taliban organization.
