Shafiullah Azam has been serving as the Director of Economic Relations at the Taliban's Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the fall of 2021. Educated in Kabul, he reportedly played an active role during the 2013/2014 period by supporting the election campaign of former President Ashraf Ghani. Aligned with nationalist ideas, he soon developed sympathies toward the Taliban. He became involved with a circle of friends actively advocating for the Taliban's cause on social media and opposing the former Afghan government. Before the Taliban's takeover, he reportedly managed CS, Inc., a private company in Kabul, and was involved in television production and presentation for a local media outlet.
