Sheikh Saniullah Farahmand, a senior Turkmen cleric, assumed his current position as the Taliban's acting ambassador to Turkiye in June 2025. Before this appointment, he served as the provincial head of the military court in Kunduz province since August 2023, and earlier led the provincial Ulema Shura (clerical council) in the same province.
Although the Turkish government has not yet formally recognized the Taliban government, it has credentialed Farahmand to serve as the caretaker of the Taliban-operated Afghan Embassy in Ankara.
