Mawlawi Shah Hussain Hussaini took on the role of Director-General for Revenue at the Ministry of Finance in late February 2024. Before this appointment, he held the position of Director of Coordination in charge of overseeing all provincial revenue collection and treasury operations, known as "mastofiats," under the purview of the Ministry of Finance, a position he held since June 2023. Before the Taliban's takeover, Shah Hussain Hussaini spent six years in the Taliban's customs services. According to his biography posted on the website of the Taliban's Ministry of Finance, he was purportedly studied under the tutelage of the current Taliban emir, Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada, and the Taliban's Chief Justice, Sheikh Abdul Hakim Haqqani.
