Mawlawi Abdul Ahad Fazly was appointed as the Governor of Faryab province in late May 2024, transitioning from his previous position as the Governor of Samangan province, which he had held since October 2022. Before his governorship in Samangan, he briefly held the position of Provincial Chief of Police in Helmand province from June to October 2022. Preceding that, he served briefly as the District Governor of Musa Qala in Helmand province.
