Mawlawi Abdul Khaliq Akhund took charge as Governor of Paktika province in late February 2024. Between February 2022 and February 2024, he served as the Deputy Minister for Coordination of Tribes and Jirgas at the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs, Preceding that role, he was the Deputy Governor of Zabul province. Prior to the Taliban's takeover in mid-2021, Abdul Khaliq Akhund was the Taliban’s shadow governor for Nimruz province. In the past, he has served as a local commander and district governor of Spin Boldak district in Kandahar province. He was educated in a madrassa in Kandahar province.
