Mawlawi Ahmad Jan Akhundzada is a senior Taliban leader who presently serves as the Special Representative of the Taliban's emir, Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada. In this capacity, he effectively serves as a liaison between the emir and the Taliban's cabinet officials in Kabul. Before his current role, Mawlawi Ahmad Jan briefly served as Director General of the Office of Monitoring and Supervision of Leadership Orders at the Council of Ministers in Kabul, a role which involved managing the compilation, recording, and follow-up of the emir's orders and decrees. Before that, until July 2022, he was Director General of the Office of Administrative Affairs at the Council of Ministers. He is reported to be the brother-in-law of the Taliban's founding leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar. During the 1990s, he reportedly served as governor of Zabul and Uruzgan provinces under the Taliban's rule. Post-2001, he remained active in Uzuzgan (as of 2007). Some reports indicate he was born in Qara Bagh District, Ghazni Province in the late 1960s.
