Mawlawi Ahmad Taha has held the position of Deputy Minister of Borders and Tribal Affairs since May 2023. Before this assignment, he served as the Governor of eastern Kunar province from June 2022 to May 2023. Prior to that, he briefly held the position of Deputy Minister for audit at the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs. During the 1990s, Ahmad Taha served as a provincial Governor of Paktia province under the Taliban regime. After 2001, he led the Taliban's activities in Nangarhar and Wardak provinces. Known as a close associate of Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, Ahmad Taha reportedly maintained close links with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. Born in 1963, he is listed on the United Nations sanctions list under the designation TAi.105.
