Mawlawi Bismillah Akhund, also identified as Bismillah Abdullah, was appointed as the Second Deputy Director-General for Administrative Affairs at the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) in late June 2024. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Governor of Khost province from October 2022 to June 2024 and as the Governor of Zabul province from November 2021 to October 2022. Previously, as a member of the Quetta Shura Taliban, Bismillah Akhund held the position of the Taliban’s shadow governor for Ghazni province during their insurgency.
