Mawlawi Mohammad Agha Hakim, a seasoned Taliban commander, has held the position of Governor of Panjshir province since May 2023. Prior to assuming this role, he was the Governor of Nuristan province. He is reportedly a close affiliate of the Haqqani Network and has maintained longstanding ties to al-Qaeda. Some reports suggest that Mohammad Agha Hakim is of Nuristani ethnicity with a Sayyid tribal lineage.
