Mawlawi Mohammad Ishaq Akhundzada, a veteran Taliban commander, presently holds the position of Director of Cultural and Social Affairs at the Office of Administrative Affairs within the Council of Ministers. Before his appointment in April 2023, he served as the Governor of Ghazni province. In the 1990s, he held the position of Governor of Laghman province under the Taliban's regime. Subsequently, he was responsible for overseeing the Taliban's military activities in Ghazni province. Born in the mid-1960s, he is reportedly listed on the UN's sanctions list under the designation TAi.101.
